CHATHAM FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT

Special Meeting

June 2, 2008

  

The meeting was called to order at 1505 hours, Trustee Butler, Trustee Branham, Trustee Sullivan, Chief Schumer, Firefighters’ Jeremy Jacobs, Jimmie Gerberding, and Jerry Hughes were present.

 Old Business- Insurance companies, RW Troxell and ESIP, will have insurance quotes ready for the June 10, 2008 meeting. Office Manager Dawn Sanchez presented new health insurance rates. Trustees’ were shown two options and chose option B, which will cover 100% of the employee portion of the health insurance. 

New Business- Chief Schumer stated that the Department of Labor did a surprise visit on May 29, 2008. Most items on the list have already been resolved. Clarification is forthcoming on a few items.

 Firefighter Jacobs presented a bill to Chief Schumer for paramedic tuition in the amount of $1,148.00. Trustee Sullivan made a motion to pay bill. Trustee Butler seconded motion; motion was passed with a unanimous aye vote.

 The new hires will need certain items for safety equipment. Inventory was taken and Chief Schumer will get quotes for items needed. The District Board approved for Chief Schumer to order items from the lowest bidder when all quotes are received.

 Firefighter Brockmeyer resigned effective May 30, 2008.

 CDS copier contract is auto renewed at same price as last year.

 District went in to executive session at 1530 hours.

District went back in to open session at 1600 hours.

 Trustee Branham made a motion to give Board of Fire Commissioners direction to hire 5 new hires. Trustee Butler seconded motion; motion was passed with a unanimous aye vote.

  Trustee Butler made a motion to offer Firefighter Jacobs a 60-day contract for temporary employment. Trustee Sullivan seconded the motion; motion passed with a unanimous aye vote.

 Trustee Branham made a motion to accept Chief Schumer’s new employment contract.

Trustee Sullivan seconded motion; motion was passed with a unanimous aye vote.

 Trustee Butler made a motion to accept the Unions agreement on the placement of names on the hireback list. Trustee Sullivan seconded the motion; motion was passed with a unanimous aye vote.

 Chief Schumer stated that a union sponsored car show would take place on the Square June 7, 2008. Chief Schumer would like to have a ladder truck and an ambulance there during the car show, 8am to 4pm. The District Trustees agree with Chief Schumer. Everyone on the Chatham Fire Department is welcome at the car show.

 Meeting was adjourned at 1620 hours.
