MINUTES
CHATHAM FIRE
PROTECTION DISTRICT
Special Meeting
July 24, 2008
- Present were: Trustee Hughes, Trustee Sullian, Chief
Schumer, Firefighter’s Gerberding, Bucci, Edie, Bramley, Richard Brockmeyer,
Dawn Sanchez, and Commissioner Chuck Bliefnick.
- Meeting was called to order at 1602 hours
- Motion to approve the minutes for July 17, 2008 special
meeting was made by Trustee Sullivan and seconded by Trustee Hughes, motion
passed:

- OLD BUSINESS
- Chief Schumer discussed the schedule for training the
new members. They will go through a shortened rookie class, this class will
last three weeks. Firefighters Edie and Gerberding came up with the schedule
for orientation and training. All new members will go through the Recruit
Academy. All new recruits will work a forty-hour workweek for the first
three weeks of employment. This will be an 8 am to 5 pm day, with the
exception of some training that will take place away from the station.
Motion to move forward with the Recruit Academy made by Trustee Sullivan and
seconded by Trustee Hughes, motion passed:

- Firefighter Gerberding asked the Trustees about Social
Securtity deductions from payroll. The attorney is still looking the issue
over, if a reimbursement is in order that will have to come from the Social
Security Administration and will only go back three years.
- Office Manager Dawn Sanchez went over what had been
calculated on the FLSA issue so far. Motion was made to continue FLSA
calculations on the other firemen by Trustee Hughes and was seconded by
Trustee Sullivan, motion was passed:

- COMMISSIONERS
- Next Board of Fire Commissioners will be held July 30,
2008 at 1605 hours
- Board of Trustees went into executive session at 1620
hrs.
- Board of Trustees came out of executive session at 1712
hrs
- Motion was made by Trustee Hughes to remove Dr. Jay
Riseman as the Chatham Fire Department physician and to ask Dr. Michael Sheedy
to become the Chatham Fire Department physician, Dr. Sheedy is already the
physician in charge of the AHA program and he is located in Chatham. A letter
will be sent to Dr. Riseman. The motion was seconded by Trustee Sullivan,
motion passed:

- Motion was made by Trustee Sullivan to extend an offer
of reemployment to Richard Brockmeyer, motion was seconded by Trustee Hughes,
motion passed:

- Board of Trustees went into executive session at 1715
hrs
- Board of Trustees came out of executive session at 1725
hrs
- Richard Brockmeyer thanked the Board of Trustees for the
opportunity to once again work for the Chatham Fire Department and gladly
accepted the employment offer.
- The Board of Trustees will accept Richard Brockmeyers
uncashed check for sick time and put his time back on the books. Mr.
Brockmeyer’s vacation time, personal time, salary, and senority will all
continue as if there were no break in service per contract with Local 4490.
Motion to have Richard Brockmeyer return to work on August 8, 2008 in a
Firefighter/EMT position made by Trustee Sullivan and was seconded by Trustee
Hughes, motion passed:
