CHATHAM FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT

June 10, 2008

 

  • Present were: Trustee Hughes, Trustee Butler, Chief Schumer, Assistant Chief Osborne, Captain Bell, Firefighters Baker, Gerberding, Rogers, Gorbett, and Bramley, Office Manager Dawn Sanchez, Deb Landis (SJ-R reporter), Dave Petro, and Mike Petro (ESO Insurance representatives). Trustee Sullivan was absent due to illness.

 

  • Meeting was called to order at 1830

 

  • INSURANCE

o       RW Troxell declined to put in a quote for insurance coverage.

o       Dave Petro from ESO insurance gave a quote  

§         50% upgrade on partial loss

§         Building and contents coverage

§         $10,000.000.00 with 20 aggregate

§         Premium is $21,452.00 yearly

§         ESO is now able to broker Workers Comp Insurance

§         Trustees and Chief Schumer will compare coverage and decide by 6/15/2008

 

  • May’s minutes read and motion to approve by Trustee Hughes and seconded by Trustee Butler, motion passed:

  • Pay bills as shown on ledger, motion to approve by Trustee Butler and seconded by Trustee Hughes, motion passed:

  • OLD BUSINESS
    • Cost of additional clothing items for volunteers and new hires will be $1333.65 instead of the $600.00 that was originally estimated. Motion to approve additional cost made by Trustee Butler and seconded by Trustee Hughes, motion passed:

    • Heritage grant is approved for $5,183.00 for extrication equipment. This grant has been provided to us through Knights Action Park and their insurance company. Chief Schumer would like to purchase Genisis tools with this grant.
    • Trustee Butler brought up the option of the Safer grant. Chief Schumer is already aware of this grant.

 

  • NEW BUSINESS
    • Trustee Bulter wants to go to one signature per check, but Trustee Hughes would like more than one signature per check. Trustees will wait to see how Trustee Sullivan feels about this topic.
    • More residential knox boxes are needed, Captain Rose has used the last one. Chief Schumer would like to purchase eight more boxes at a cost of $160.00 per box. Motion to approve the purchase and use the Donation and Memorial Fund monies made by Trustee Butler and seconded by Trustee Hughes, motion passed:

    • Pagers-Minitor V’s and Minitor IV’s are under warranty, while Minitor III’s are no longer under warranty and will no longer be serviced by Motorola. Phil McCarty has given Captain Rose a new Apollo pager to test. It lasted thirteen days and had to be turned in for repairs. There is a program available to help reduce the cost of pagers. Turn in five Minitor II’s, III’s, or IV’s and receive $75.00 for every pager turned in. This goes towards purchase of a new pager. Motion to get a quote from Phil McCarty and get at least five new pagers made by Trustee Hughes and seconded by Trustee Butler, motion passed:

    • It was mentioned by Chief Schumer that the in-house paging system will have to be upgraded, Hi-band will be in place by 2010.

 

  • BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSIONERS
    • There will be a meeting at 1605 hrs on June 11, 2008 to further discuss hiring and background checks.

 

  • PENSION BOARD
    • The pension is under funded by $125,000.00. The Trustees will table this discussion until the July meeting.
    • The Union would like to thank the Board of Trustees for the help they received for their car show on the square. The Trustees authorized an ambulance and a truck to go to the car show along with volunteer personnel to stay with the vehicles.

 

  • OTHER BUSINESS
    • Firefighter Gorbett would like a new set of hedge trimmers, the old ones are broken. Motion to get new hedge trimmers and set a spending cap of $200.00 made by Trustee Butler and seconded by Trustee Hughes, motion was passed:

  • Board of Trustees went into executive session at 1953 hrs.
  • Board of Trustees came out of executive session at 2140 hrs.

 

  • Motion to do LiveScan background checks on all current and future employees made by Trustee Butler and seconded by Trustee Hughes, motion passed:

  • Motion to give probationary Firefigher Tadd Schroeder permanent status made by Trustee Hughes and seconded by Trustee Butler, motion passed:

  • Snell Company has been into look at the furnace. The motor and shaft are bad and need replaced. Estimated cost to repair is around $400.00, and parts need to be ordered. Motion to fix the furnace made by Trustee Hughes and seconded by Trustee Butler, motion passed:

  • Motion to give Assistant Chief Osborne a 3% raise made by Trustee Hughes and seconded by Trustee Butler, motion passed:
