CHATHAM FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT MINUTESJune 12, 2007The meeting was called to order at 1835 hours with Trustee Butler, Trustee Sullivan, Chief Schumer, Dawn Sanchez, and Firefighter Jimmie Gerberding present. Trustee Butler made a motion to pay bills as shown on ledger. Motion was seconded by Trustee Sullivan and passed by unanimous aye vote. Trustee Butler made a motion to renew our insurance with VFIS. Trustee Sullivan seconded the motion. Trustee Butler also made a motion to reappoint Paula Staab Polk as Chairperson on the Board of Fire Commissioners. This is a three-year appointment; she will be up for reappointment in the year 2010. Motion was seconded by Trustee Sullivan and passed with a unanimous aye vote. Old Business- The $116,000 payment to the pension account was brought up by Chief Schumer. The District Trustees decided to table the discussion until the July meeting when Trustee Branham would be in attendance. New Business-The renewal fee for the Sam’s cards is due. It was decided that when Firefighter Peecher retires in July his card would go to Chief Schumer. Dawn Sanchez will contact all other members with a card about the renewal fee. Board of Fire Commissioners update- hearings took place on 5/31/07 and the disciplinary decisions were handed down on 6/01/07. Pension Board update- the Pension Board has made a request for payment from the members that owe the pension account. Each employee was offered three options on repayment. The Board will let the District know when the withholdings will begin. The employees who are owed money from the account will not have pension money withheld out of their paychecks until they have a zero balance. District will start on the June 22nd payroll. Chief Schumer- Trustees agree to have Chief Schumer place an order for Kraig Peechers retirement Award of Gratitude. Pawnee pipeline explosion/ reimbursement is available. Chief Schumer has put in for reimbursement and will know if it is approved at a later date. Chief Schumer has received four quotes for a flammable storage cabinet. Cost is around $1169 for a 90-gallon unit and $1200 for a 120-gallon unit. IPRF- shower and eye wash station still needs to go in. Lt. Wood is checking into specifics for the District. Chief Schumer will start getting bids. Hearing protection signs will be ordered. MABAS ID’s- ID cards have a barcode that holds information on department personel. The base machine and software is around $3000.00. Chief Schumer suggested at the Chiefs meeting that the Chief’s Organization purchase the machine. The idea was rejected. Trustee Sullivan made a motion to buy the machine and charge a fair fee to all other departments of ID cards. Trustee Butler seconded the motion. ISO inspection started on 6/12/2007 and will last for three days. After a department reaches 700 calls per year, the department must have a second paging route as a back up. Ambulance should be here after the first of July. IDPH ambulance inspection will be the morning of June 13th. The District would like Chief Schumer to try and get a Merci and a C-MED license for the department. Direct Deposit discussion was tabled for the time being. At 2035 hours the District went into a closed executive session. At 2103 hours the District resumed the open meeting. Trustee Butler made a motion to pay $25 for Joe Bolletta to attend an ACLS/PALS Instructor class. The motion was seconded by Trustee Sullivan. Meeting was adjourned at 2105 hours.
